Checkout

There will be 3 types of checkouts. There is self checkout, cashier checkout, and parking delivery. The parking delivery is technically not a checkout as the items would have already been paid, but for the process of this page, it will be considered as a checkout.

The first is self checkout. This will be for fewer than 10 items. The customer will scan the items themselves, and pay with their card. The other checkout is cashier lanes. These are for more than 10 items and therefore should be able to handle the groceries. Since there are no “rewards” for visiting the store, this is one less thing the cashier will have to deal with.

All cashier checkouts will use a computer that will have a touch screen for the cashier, and a display screen for the customer. If the customer placed their items on the conveyor belt in an efficient manner, then the cashier can scan multiple items by selecting the number of items the customer has, and scan the one item. This will also mean a smaller and more consistent receipt. Once the order is tallied, the customer will choose to use their card to pay for the groceries. This is due to the fact that Kaldus will be a cashless society. In either the bank card, or SNAP card, the customer would insert their card into the reader for payment. No Kaldan bank/benefits card will have a magnetic strip on the back. If the customer also acquired non-food items, and paid with their SNAP card, they will need to use their bank card to pay for the non-food items even if they had enough in SNAP benefits. SNAP is exclusively used for food.

Parking Delivery is a little different. This is intended for people with automobiles. The customer will have created an account for the store. The account will hold all of their payment options including any SNAP benefits. The customer would select the items they want, and mark if they would want substitutions. Even though it is marked as available on the store, it is only guaranteed when the shopper acquires the item. Once acquired, the shopper will scan the items, and that would tally the bill. If the customer ordered no substitutes, then the empty stock will be deducted from their payment method. Once everything is acquired, the customer will receive an RCS/SMS message that their order is ready for pickup. The customer will drive, and park in a particular space. They will call a number, provide their order number, and the space they are parked at. A store employee will bring the items out in bio-degradable single use bags that aren’t made of plastics, and load the trunk or backseat of the automobile. The customer will then leave, and bring the groceries home. This feature is only viable for those with an automobile.
